P(I)e(A)ce
for violin and piano
P(I)e(A)ce is a continuous work in five connected sections that brings concepts of peace into dialogue with Western military field music. The title reflects the work's interest in multiple understandings of peace rather than a single definition.
The five sections—Attention & Drummer's Call, Pax Romana, Fix Bayonets, Balance of Power, and Apatheia & Last Post—take their titles from military tradition, political theory, and philosophy. Rather than presenting a narrative, they serve as points of reference within a musical dialogue between violin and piano.
The work offers no prescribed interpretation. Instead, it invites listeners to consider the relationships, tensions, and resonances that emerge as these contrasting ideas unfold within a single, uninterrupted musical form.
