Psalm Cycle in Three Movements

Psalm Cycle in Three Movements is a compact work for voice and piano built around texts from the Psalms. The cycle approaches these ancient words not simply as sacred texts, but as remarkably concentrated pieces of poetry—capable of moving within a few lines between doubt and assurance, grief and celebration, the individual and the universal.

Each movement creates its own musical environment while remaining part of a larger dramatic arc. The relationship between voice and piano shifts throughout: at times the piano supports the text, while elsewhere it becomes an independent participant, extending an image or emotion beyond the words themselves.

Across its three movements, Psalm Cycle is less an attempt to interpret the Psalms than to inhabit them—to allow their changes of scale, perspective, and emotion to determine the shape and character of the music.
