Program Note
Short Fantasy on America the Beautiful takes the familiar patriotic melody as the starting point for a compact original work. Rather than presenting the tune in a straightforward setting, the piece treats it as musical material to be reshaped, reframed, and rediscovered.
Fragments of the melody emerge within newly composed textures, allowing moments of recognition to alternate with passages that move beyond the source itself. The familiar tune remains present as a point of reference, but the fantasy form permits greater freedom of pacing, harmony, and gesture than a conventional arrangement.
The result is both an homage and a transformation: a brief reflection on a melody deeply embedded in the American musical imagination, heard through a more personal and contemporary lens.
