This arrangement of Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 in C major, “Linz,” recasts one of his most energetic and finely balanced symphonies for large brass ensemble.
The transcription preserves the clarity, elegance, and rhythmic vitality of Mozart’s original while allowing the music to take on a broader and more resonant sonority. String figurations, wind exchanges, harmonic support, and orchestral tuttis are redistributed across the brass ensemble so that individual lines remain clear even within a considerably heavier instrumental palette.
The result reveals a different side of the symphony. Mozart’s formal precision and conversational writing remain intact, but the expanded brass sonority brings added brilliance, weight, and ceremonial character to the music.
Rather than treating the work as a novelty transcription, this arrangement aims to present the Linz Symphony as substantial concert repertoire for brass ensemble—faithful to the character of Mozart’s writing while exploiting the color, power, and flexibility of the medium.
