Two Poems
for voice and bassoon
Two Poems is an intimate chamber work for the unusual pairing of voice and bassoon, setting two original poems by the composer. Written to explore the expressive possibilities of this compact ensemble, the work treats the bassoon as an equal dramatic partner rather than as accompaniment.
The combination offers a surprisingly broad palette. The bassoon can blend closely with the human voice, answer it conversationally, provide contrast through its distinctive timbre, or function independently as a second expressive character. With only two performers, every shift of color, articulation, register, and gesture becomes exposed and immediate.
